Black Girl Picnic began with an invitation: one woman, a blanket, and the hope that a few people might show up.
60 people did.
Since then, Black Girl Picnic has grown into a movement: a gathering built on rest, joy, culture, and collective healing for Black women and girls.
This is not a festival that happens to Black women. It is a space Black women built for themselves, and it belongs to whichever city is ready to hold it with care.

What started in Detroit is no longer only Detroit's. Black Girl Picnic now grows through a network of local hosts organizers who fell in love with what this space holds and want to build it in their own community, under the values and standards that made it beloved in the first place.
Each city brings its own flavor. The heart stays the same.
Black Girl Picnic will continue to live in Detroit through community-hosted events, licensed local partners, and the values the city planted from the start, while the movement keeps growing.
